Where do you shoot in the DMV?
All over!
Some of my favorites:
Washington DC: Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin, Reflecting Pool, National Mall, Georgetown waterfront and canal, Rock Creek Park, National Gallery of Art
Maryland: Rock Creek Regional Park, Brookside Gardens, Seneca Creek State Park, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Old Town Annapolis
Virginia: Great Falls Park, Old Town Alexandria
Not sure where to go? Tell me your vibe and I'll find the spot.
Do I need a permit for photos at DC monuments?
As of January 2025 — for most sessions, no. The EXPLORE Act changed the rules for some National Park Service locations including the Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin, Reflecting Pool, and National Mall. Small sessions with fewer than 8 people using handheld gear no longer require a permit. I shoot handheld with no stands, lights, or tripods — so for the vast majority of my sessions we're completely good to go. I'll let you know if anything specific to your session requires a permit.
Am I responsible for location fees or permits?
Yes — any entrance fees, photography permits, or special access fees for the location are the client's responsibility.
Do you travel outside DC?
Yes — I cover the full DMV. Northern Virginia (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, McLean, Reston) and Maryland (Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring) are all fair game. Travel beyond a reasonable distance may come with a travel fee — we'll discuss it upfront so there are no surprises.
What's the best time of day to shoot?
Golden hour (one hour before sunset) and sunrise. The light is warm, soft, and flattering. Popular spots like the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin are quieter during sunrise than during golden hour!
Can we shoot at multiple locations?
Within a session we typically move through 2–3 setups in the same general area. If you want to plan something across multiple separate locations, reach out and we can build a custom timeline together.
